Bad Sales management

AI Highlights
  • - The F-150 had a window sticker price of 56,999.
  • - After paperwork, the price rose to 59,999 and wasn't honored, and I left without a truck.
Simmons Rockwell - Bad Sales management

I went to buy a Ford F-150 , black with window sticker of 56999

Filled out all paperwork for purchasing it and now they tell me the new price is 59999. Said they made a mistake.

Well when you place the truck on the lot with the sticker price in bold color letters on front windshield you better honor the price. Told me to have a good day and sent me on the way, no truck.

As always they for the most part just blank complaints. You know so sad to bad attitude.

Original review Jul 03, 2024

I purchased a brand new car from them and the very next inspection they say the tires are locked up, not moving, and it needs new brakes. The moron that inspected the car left the hand brake on.

It is a standard transmission, you always put the brake on when you park. Then they handed me a list saying it needed in the ballpark around 7 thousand to fix everything. The car had brand new EBC with less than 25 miles on them.

I left and went to a ford dealer in Albany and it passed inspection with flying colours. Now, I believe in giving the mentally challenged jobs but not in the safety industry.

User's recommendation: My opinion they are crooks and kooks

  • - Dropped off for GM recall; parts may take weeks.
  • - Will charged $350 for extra parts.
  • - Another dealer fixed it next day with no extra charges.

I had a GM part recall and dropped my vehicle off for assessment. From the moment I walked in, something didn't feel right.

I was told that the part might take a few weeks to two months to arrive. I waited and brought the car back after a month and a half. After they completed the work order, they said I didn't owe anything. However, Will, the Service Manager, called me and said that I needed additional parts that would cost $350 + tax/labor.

I asked if they could put my car back together, as I'd be there to pick it up. He said they never took it apart, and it's here whenever you're ready to pick it up. I wondered how they would know that the vehicle needed extra parts if the vehicle hadn't been taken apart.

I took my car to another dealership and dropped it off. The part was put on the next day, the problem was fixed, and I wasn't charged any extra pocket expenses.

Cons:
  • Tried charging for parts that my car did not need

Preferred solution: Apology

User's recommendation: Dont go here for Service on your vehicle, they will charge you for additional parts that arent needed

Dishonesty

AI Highlights
  • - -Truck stalls at lights and intersections, dangerous.
  • - -Error reset and a 100-mile test planned; possible warranty solenoid replacement if it recurs; loaner unavailable.

I have been pushed around. The truck I purchased a couple of months ago in Hornell started stalling at traffic light stops, stop signs, and intersections.

Very dangerous when this happens. I had it towed to them to look at. The mechanic said they followed Fords recommended diagnostics for the error code for this known problem. They reset the part throwing the error and was told to drive it another 100 miles to see if it came back.

If it did then they would replace the solenoid, which is under warrantee. I sensed a hesitation to try and fix the problem then and there.

As expected, the same thing happened again. Stalling n the middle of a busy road is dangerous. I managed to get the car to their shop after numerous stalls and failed starts.

This was on a Friday. They said they couldnt look at it that day, which is understandable, but said it would probably be on Monday or Tues. I asked if they had a loaner and the desk person said they dont until the person comes to pick up their car, touching the bills slip and customer keys on the counter. He also said he would call me when it was available.

Guess what, no call on Friday.

I called Monday. The loaner is still not available. Whoa. Something is not right there.

Did they loan it out to someone else before me? Thats what was likely. Also, hadnt been able to look at my truck yet.

I called again Tues evening. The mechanic hadnt had time to look yet, but they did have the loaner available for Wed morning.

I went in at 8:00am Wed morning for the loaner.

I was there 45 mins. During that time, not a single vehicle was in the service bay that whole time. I was told that they had me in to be looked at that morning. Being happy to have a loaner I left them alone until Thurs afternoon.

I called and was told the same thing.

The mechanic hasnt had a chance to look yet. I asked when they thought they would be able look. At this point I was angry and they knew it. They had me in for the following Tuesday.

No communication with me about this.

No calls with any updates. Misleading.

Dishonest. I am pretty sure they worked new jobs in front of me.

User's recommendation: If you have to go to them, make sure to stay on top of them, they will push you around.

They do not owe you a loaner. You can call the company that has your warranty.

3rd party or manufacturer. Most warranties exclude loaner or rental cars(except for 3rd party). You may be able to get one through your insurance.

If you have that in your policy, and often it does not increase your premiums.. Loaner car is a courtesy and not a requirement.

I never said they owed me one. But when you say you are going to call soon when it’s available and then don’t that is poor service, especially when they obviously loaned it out to someone else first.

  • - Maverick has a dead battery requiring jump-start.
  • - Dealer recharged the 12V, but it was dead again; no loaner, 5-day wait; car over 2 months old.

Maverick constantly has dead battery. Can start with jump.

Having to do it everyday. Took to dealer and they recharged the 12v battery and next morning the truck was dead. Glad NY has lemon law. When I called dealer about vehicle being dead again, told I could have appointment in 5 days.

No loaner vehicle available. My only source of transportation with cancer.

Vehicle a little more than 2 months old. Horrible dealer.

Cons:
  • Service horrible

Preferred solution: Full refund

Fixing what did not need to be fixed

AI Highlights
  • - Brake pedal dropped and truck wouldn't start, causing multiple tows.
  • - The truck was shuffled between Bath, Hornell, and Horseheads with delays.

I have a 2014 ford f150 that I bought from them. I had an issue one day when I went to stop at a stop sign and my break peddle dropped to the floor.

So I contacted Simmons and Rockwell to get it looked at because the brakes were good on it. I had to take it to Bath to have them look at it. When I went to pick it up, they told me there was nothing wrong with it. I went to start my truck with the mechanic standing there, and my truck would not start.

First time I ever had my truck not start. So the mechanic pulled it back in and said it was a fuse. I drove home and a couple of days later I had the same issue. My truck would not start and had to have it towed to the Horseheads service center.

They said it was some other part on the top side of the motor, and they replaced it. Took my truck back home and a week later same issue again truck would not start and had to have it towed. The lady and the service center said they would have to send it to Bath again. I knew with holidays that week it would take a little longer,, so I gave them almost and extra week before contacting them.

I called Bath and asked about my truck. The guy said they did not have my truck, that maybe it was at the Hornell shop. I called Hornell and they did not have it. I called the Horseheads shop and spoke with a guy this time, and he said he would check into it and call me back.

The guy did call me back and said my truck was still there, that no one sent it to Bath. By this time they had my truck almost 2 weeks. I asked him why it was not sent. He said made actually I think you were just dropped.

Out of sight, out of mind. He sent my truck to Bath that day. I contacted Bath and spoke with the service guy and explained to him, I think it may be the automatic start. He said they would check things out, and they would call me.

I get a call from Bath telling me my truck was 3/4 of a tank of diesel fuel. I was like, how did it get diesel fuel in it. The last place I got gas, the diesel fuel pumps, are on the opposite side of the store. But they swore that, that was what is in it.

It would cost me just over $6000.00 to fix it. I had to call my insurance company to make a claim. When the insurance claims guy called me after checking on the truck he told me he did not think it was diesel fuel, but there was a little discoloration in my gas and regardless it was messing with my truck. Well after almost 3 months I get a call to come pick up my truck and the guy tells me that after all the work my truck still would not run,, so he unhooked my automatic star, andd it ran fine.

So if he had done told him in the beginning I would not have had made a claim for $6000.00 on my insurance.

Simon's Rockwell love to scam the *** out of people. Never again will I purchase a vehicle from them.

$60,000.00 loss hope it was worth it.

Original review Nov 11, 2019

I’ve been a loyal customer to this dealership, having purchased ten vehicles from the Hallstead dealership over the past 18 years. I have went out of my way to brag this dealership to friends, family and coworkers.

This word of mouth has been a blessing with more sales to their dealership.

This 18 year journey has had some bumps with dishonesty from sales and service, but in the end issues were resolved and those issues were more from dealership growing pains and inexperienced staff.

Recently that all changed, I contacted a salesperson who I trusted and have made repeat purchases with.

I found a new vehicle on their website , contacted the salesperson via Phone, text and email. I gave a detailed message communicating my interest, my trade info. Including amount of money still owed on the trade, mileage, and the maximum I expected to pay in a new monthly payment.

I requested credit applications sent to mine and my wife’s emails to get that out of the way before we visited the dealership.

Made further calls asking reassurance the credit application was received, reviewed and set up a firm time to meet with the salesperson.

Got to the dealership early was left standing in the doorway with my two sons , while they searched for the salesperson, finally get set down . After more wasted time started giving my info , reiterating things that were sent in original communication.

Sit for another 1/2 an hour and the finance guy , ( who I’ve dealt with on numerous other purchases) starts to go over numbers.

I always do my homework and know ahead of time the general low and high trade in-values.

First the bomb they offer 3 thousand less than the poor to fair quality of the trade, with only 26 thousand miles, (by the way they have my exact vehicle on their lot in only a fair to good condition VS my mint condition vehicle , theirs has 6 thousand more miles on it and they are asking 6 thousand more than what they are offering me.

Than the finance guy tries to give me a lecture on how sometimes depreciation and buying , you have to basically bite the bullet and pay a higher payment, his quote you know you’ve bought so many vehicles I don’t have to tell you!

“And lastly the bottom falls out , tells me a lease payment and or car purchase payment of over 400 dollars more than I’m currently paying."................hello did anyone read the email, read the text, or listen when we talked on the phone!

Pissed wouldn’t explain my disappointment.

So then the salesperson and finance guy got up mumbling something about let’s see if there’s something else we can do , leave us and went and hid I guess, sat there for another 1/2 an hour. Got up and left.

I could have went to a fly by night used car dealership and been treated better and more honestly.

Had someone read and did their homework they could have simply got back to me and communicated the payment I was looking for wasn’t achievable and I would have opted to look for another new vehicle with less bells/ whistles and got the payment I wanted.

Simmons Rockwell it was fun , but now you are dead to me, my family , friends and surely I will communicate to the 2500 co-workers I employed with to steer clear of your dealerships.

I bought my car from simmons rockwell in elmira ny. Recently had an engine recall fixed by them.

I was told the technicians had to go for training so they knew how to fix the recall issue. I drove an hour out of my town yesterday, and my engine blew up. Oil pouring out everywhere. Engine knocking.

Left me stranded in the middle of no where at 9pm. Never had any issues with my car until their techs had to take my engine out to fix a recall. I am so unhappy. I now have no car due to inexperienced unknowledgable and uncaring techinicians.

I will be calling simmons tomorrow to demand they fix my car. So mad.

  • - Ad described as an error; price is $29,000.

I was recently looking to purchase a truck from Simmons Rockwell. As I am from the Rochester, NY area, I wanted to ensure the truck was still available.

I contacted the Bath location and was advised the truck was still there. The ad on their website indicated a price of $26,999, which is a ridiculously low price for a 2018 GMC. I spoke with a sales rep who stated "yes we still have it, and the price is reduced to $29,000". I advised him the ad said 26,999.

The sales rep stated he would look into it. The following day, he contacted me and advised "it was an error in the ad" and the real price is 29,000. I have spoken to several people in the auto dealer industry and they advised that Simmons Rockwell is known to do this. They will put an ad with one price or mileage, and the actual price or mileage is different.

They then put the blame on the marketing firm for putting the wrong information.

Typical bait and switch nonsense. Caveat emptor folks.

On Sep. 5th i had my driver side car window looked at because it would go down but would not go back up.

They said they would order the part, I only have two days a week that i can come in to have it fix, so my appointment was a couple weeks later, i show up on the 26th only to wait 40 mins for them to tell me that the part has not arrived yet, so made another appointment for the 3rd of Oct. only to be dissatisfied once again said they would call when the part comes in.

I should not take a month or more for a part to come in, I've heard too many complaints about this just waiting in the waiting room there... someone should be checking into this, the people who currently work there are not doing there job that they are being paid to do.

Don't take your trade-in to some or Rockwell's they will rip you off

You're lucky to be living in the here and now. Obviously you are too young to recall the advent of foreign cars in the U.S.

with 6 months seeming reasonable for parts and components for your Datsun.

Folks now are accustomed to instant gratification which just isn't a law of the universe but an occasional convenience when found. There's no excuse for keeping you physically waiting around for something they don't have, but not everything is instantly available at all times.

Shut up old man, Times change. This isn’t the 1970s.

Of course it took longer in the old days but it shouldn’t take as long in 2019. The guy has a legitimate gripe.
